..I’ll wait until the new year, then I’ll start. Yea that’s the plan.
I get this question from students, clients, and prospects we speak with on sales calls.
So by the end of this article, you’ll know if it’s time to hold back or to put the pedal down.
Many of us feel the new year coming and we’ve been through a lot.
For some of us, more than we’ve ever delt with.
But with the new year approaching you may be telling yourself:
Come January 1st, things will be different, 2021 will be different and this will be the year I start my business and take control…
So here’s what I am going to do. December will be my incubation period.
I’ll learn, grow, and on the first, then I’ll start reaching out to businesses…no wait
“January first is a holiday, so more than half of businesses will be closed…
January second I’ll start…wait…
Wait, so the second is a Saturday…
You get my point…
Now if you’re just starting and really have no idea where, to start… That makes sense, use December as an incubation period to learn.
But continuing to post pone day after day, week after week for the perfect moment, the perfect opportunity.
Like ET says, you can’t wait for that moment, you have to create the perfect time, the perfect opportunity, the perfect situation.
This was a question we got recently:
Is now a good time to start reaching out to businesses with the holidays, or should I wait until January?
My answer simply was, “Who do you think these businesses will choose for their new 2021 plans, the agency that they’ve just got a message cold from Jan 1st, or someone they’ve already engaged with?”
The answer is always start yesterday, and if you haven’t done that, start now.
Back in 2016 we filed for our LLC, stood up our website and it actually was at this exact same time of year.
January 1st New Year’s Day was actually a day we had off from our 9–5 and David and I had this exact conversation…
We thought half the businesses would be closed that day, but then we thought…well that’s means half the businesses are open.
After a day of cold emailing and cold calling, we landed 3 meetings.
Two of those turned into clients. One we had on for 2 years, another that we still work with to this day.
Now is the time to be planting seeds, because come January companies will be looking to implement new 2021 strategies and if you’re just getting to them then, you might find yourself in a back off situation with other agencies, or completely ignored.
I know some of you are out there right now on the sideline, thinking it would be great to own your own business, work for yourself, or just literally make enough so you could leave that awful 9–5 you absolutely despise.
Action, getting in-front of these business owners is the only thing standing between you and your dreams, so I can’t encourage you enough here to get yourself into the marketplace now and do not wait for some “perfect time”
